The Abigail Adams cotton Matelassé bedspread, woven in the elegant Trapunto or “stuffed work” style, is our most beautiful bedspread. The Trapunto style originated in Sicily around the 14th century and became popular in France and England in the 1600’s. European immigrants introduced the style to America.
Our Abigail Adams bedspread, woven on traditional Jacquard looms, is the highest quality 100% preshrunk cottonand is machine washable. The bedspread will not shrink, and the colors will not fade.
The bedspread is finished with a knotted string fringe. In addition to the bedspreads, the Abigail Adams pattern is available in standard and king-size shams and throws with string fringe.
Maine Heritage Weavers craftsmen and women, former Bates Fabrics employees, are now weaving America’s most famous bedspreads in their original weight and beauty. The former Bates Fabrics employees use the same equipment to weave the superior quality bedspreads and the same techniques their parents and grandparents taught them.
